Minni Moore Room

During renovations of this 2nd floor waterside room, an envelope addressed just “Miss Minnie Moore, Mays Landing, NJ” with a 2 cent stamp still attached, was found behind this room’s fireplace mantle. The letter inside was dated February 15, 1893 and sent from her brother, William Moore Jr. who was away at Swarthmore College. For nearly a century this letter was wedged safely behind the mantle awaiting rediscovery. The letter is now framed and hanging on the wall next to where it was found for all to read. This room features an original gas logged fireplace, central air conditioning, water views, queen size brass and painted iron bed, large private bath with tub/shower and deluxe amenities, wall mounted flat screen TV, Wi-Fi plus secured hard wired high speed internet access and phone. This room can also accommodate our crib set up (additional fee) for travelers with young children and has adjoining double locking doors connecting this room to our Wheaton room for families traveling together. Check rates and availability.

The Abbott Room:
This quaint 2nd floor room is named for the Abbott’s who were the third family to call this grand “house on the hill” home while raising three generations of Abbotts here. At the turn of the century, they owned the general store in town were you could by a pound of flour or a model T Ford. In the early 1900’s Charles Abbott became the local town dentist setting up an office and waiting room in what now is the Inn’s parlor dining room. This 2nd floor room, (above old Charlie’s office), features a queen size bed, working brick faced gas-logged fireplace, central air conditioning, professionally shabby chic’ed period desk and dresser, small private bath with stall shower and deluxe amenities, a wall mounted flat screen TV, Wi-Fi and secured hard wired high speed internet access and phone.

The Pennington Room
This 3rd floor waterside room has the best river and harbor views in the inn that extend down to Pennington’s Point. One of the first schooners to be built in Mays Landing was called the Licensecaptained by John Pennington, who along with his family, lived across the river at a place known to this day as Pennington’s Point. On a return trip from the West Indies, the License carried a costly cargo of sugar and molasses, which was off loaded and stored on the “high banks of the river next to Babcock’s Creek”. That knoll, on which the Inn now sits, has been called “Sugar Hill” since that time. This 3rd floor room has lofted ceilings with gables, queen size brass bed, a restored 1800’s double shelved & mirrored fireplace mantle with a tiled surround and electric stove, central air conditioning, large private bath with tub/shower and deluxe bathroom amenities, large flat screen TV, Wi-Fi plus secured hard wired high speed internet access. Its larger size can accommodate a third guest with our made up portable cot (additional fee).

Captain Babcock Room:
This 3rd floor room is named for a local sea captain from English Creek, who commandeered many of William Moore’s sailing ships. He was later lost at sea, along with his crew of seven, in the “Portland Gale” in Massachusetts Bay while captaining the Abel E. Babcock, a four-masted schooner. This room boasts a restored antique natural wood mantle from the Eastern shore with tiled surround and electric stove, along with many authentic nautical artifacts. This 3rd floor room has lofted ceilings with gables, offers water views of Babcock’s Creek and a peak at the Great Egg Harbor River. It also has a queen size bed, central air conditioning, private bath with stall shower and deluxe amenities, a large wall mounted flat screen TV, Wi-Fi plus secured hard wired high speed internet access and phone.

The Senator's Suite:
Senator William Moore, upon purchasing this modest waterfront center hall colonial in 1865, immediately undertook a major renovation that would transform the house into what would become known as “The Moore Villa”. These renovations included a large two story southern wing and a 70’ gingerbread porch overlooking the river. The three added 2nd floor bedrooms, originally for visiting Washington dignitaries, are now what make up the Inn’s Senator’s Suite. This waterside suite, which can be entered through the inn or by its own private outside staircase, includes a bedroom with a brass and painted iron queen size bed, refinished antique oak desk and dresser, private bath with stall shower and deluxe bathroom amenities, French doors leading to a small sitting room with gas fireplace, wall mounted flat screen TV, Wi-Fi and secure hard wired high speed internet access, full size couch and wing chair, and adjoining kitchenette with range/oven, microwave and refrigerator/freezer, sink with breakfast bar and phone. The sitting room also opens to a private canopied waterside deck with wicker furniture, table and chairs for six and the best harbor and sunset views in Mays Landing. This room can accommodate up to three guests by making up the sitting room couch with bedding (additional fee).
