Restaurant Description

Harvest Bistro & Bar, a modern french bistro, strives to provide its clientele with an overall sense of well-being; wonderful, comfort food served by a hospitable, attentive wait staff in an extraordinary atmosphere that ultimately generates lasting, warm memories. With Owners Russ and Mark Stern and Executive Chef Denis Whitton at the helm, this family run, culinary destination has emerged as one of Bergen County’s top new restaurants. Its hearty menu is executed with innovative enthusiasm, while the space itself is a fresh, warm delight.

Harvest Bistro reflects a cozy, intimate, casual yet sophisticated lifestyle with stunning architectural elements and superb interior décor. Its unpretentious atmosphere is achieved through the use of natural materials; copper, stone, ebonized wood, birch trees, and a glowing hearth always ready to warm the hearts, and hands of its patrons. The setting is enhanced by owner Russ Stern’s passion for food, wine, and music, where he graciously hosts guests nightly. Stringent standards of excellence in service, food presentation, and quality ingredients, married with delicious comfort food concepts, complete the dining experience.

We look forward to your visit!

Harvest Bistro & Bar was designed by Meryl Stern, a namesake partner in the published design firm of Butler Stern Interiors, as well as the wife of owner Russell Stern. The exterior façade, a barn red, gabled house with a stone chimney and vined arbors fits beautifully into the landscape of the residential neighborhood that it shares with a 22-acre flower farm. The interior space embodies all natural elements to warm the hearts and souls of its patrons. Stern worked with Daniel Mack, a master of rustic tree-artistry, in creating a stair rail consisting of a woven meddle of Mountain Laurel branches, as well as a collage of birch bark that covers the focal wall of the Entry. Upon entering the Dining Room, a huge stone fireplace rises to the top of the 22-foot vaulted ceiling. Antique truss beams criss-cross and uplight the tea stained ceiling, from which hangs an antique French ironwork chandelier. The walls are all softly colored in a warm yellow Venetian plaster, and lit with copper and glass beaded sconces. Meryl Stern blurs the lines between outdoors and in by using actual golden birch trees that appear to grow out of the ebonized oak floor through a stone bed and up through the ceiling. The sinewy form of the tree is repeated as a single yew branch rises above the fireplace mantel.
